Created by nature for Gitzo - the new Basalt Collection has arrived!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 19, 2010
This new collection offers high quality tripods, heads, a monopod, and a boom all made of rock hard basalt.
The Basalt equipment is an excellent economical alternative to Carbon Fiber. The new Basalt tripods are a prosumer level tripod. They have similar characteristics to Carbon Fiber in that they are lightweight and have vibration absorption properties.
These 6 new tripods are excellent for someone looking to move a step up from Aluminum tripods. They are approximately 20% lighter and in adverse conditions, these Basalt tripods do not expand or contract in heat or cold. The new High Performance Basalt fiber tubes are 15-22% stronger than previous Basalt tubes. Gitzo Basalt tripods are available in Series 1 for lighter equipment (up to 7kg, lenses up to 200mm), Series 2 for a mid-weight system (up to 10kg, lenses up to 300mm), and Series 3 for the highest maximum weight offered in this collection (up to 15kg, lenses up to 400mm). These new tripods are available in standard and compact heights in order to have maximum compatibility for individual users.
The Basalt tripods, monopod and boom have safety features for your camera and equipment, including G-Lock. G-Lock leg locks ensure a solid lock between the leg sections to support the maximum load, all with the flick of a wrist. G-Lock is far stronger and less prone to slipping than other compression type locks. The Basalt line also includes a new monopod and a microphone boom, both in a convenient 6-section compact size. The Basalt heads are created with the same high quality production and same maximum load capacity as the previous all black Noir Décor Collection heads while at a more competitive price.
Inspired by the black basalt that comes straight from the Earth's core, Gitzo's Basalt Collection introduces a
new colour scheme – black and flame orange.

Basalt Monopod GM3860C
The Basalt Collection introduces a new compact Gitzo monopod. A Series 3 monopod with
maximum load of 15kg and 6-sections is the ideal compromise between height, minimum size
and weight. This all around companion features the Gitzo Power Disc with Safe Lock - a surface
that holds onto the base of the camera and a locking screw that locks into the base of a head
when one is used. The new High Performance Basalt tubes and the exclusive belt clip make the
Basalt monopod a must have.

Basalt Boom GB3860C
A Basalt microphone boom is included in the newest Gitzo collection. A series 3 boom with
maximum weight of 2kg, this 6-section boom is an ideal travel companion. The 6-sections
ensure the boom remains compact when collapsed as well as lightweight. The Basalt boom
incorporates the latest Gitzo technologies and the High Performance Basalt tubes to complete
the new Basalt Collection.

Basalt Collection Heads
The new Basalt Collection is similar to the previous collection Gitzo center ball heads. The Series 1, 2 and 3
(again for varying degrees of maximum weight) Quick Release heads are now offered in the new black and
flame orange Basalt. The new Basalt heads feature one simple locking mechanism that allows the
photographer to quickly and easily make adjustments. These new heads feature similar outstanding
innovations and design of the previous Noir Décor heads. The Basalt heads feature the smooth movement
Gitzo is known for, minimised drift angle, and a low center of gravity – all of this while remaining lightweight
and compact. Gitzo is able to give all of these features to the Basalt heads thanks to unique and exclusive
technical solutions. The "Bubble Ball" combined with the ultra light magnesium outer shell, allows an
impressively light mass and it gives these heads the best weight to max load ratio in the market. The
evolutionary "Spring Assisted Double Lock" (SADL) combined with the Bubble Ball guarantees both an
exceptional locking power and ultra smooth, high precision movement. The new leveling system made of three
independent leveling bubbles, including one in the ball stem (another first by Gitzo), guarantees perfectly level
images regardless of terrain
